GCCI BULLETIN FEBRUARY 2026
February 2026
It is a privilege to connect with you through this edition of our Chamber’s bulletin and share key highlights of GCCI’s recent initiatives and engagements focused on strengthening Goa’s economic ecosystem.
The Union Budget 2026–27 marks a significant step toward building a resilient and growth-oriented economy. We welcome its clear focus on infrastructure development, MSMEs, manufacturing, skilling, and employment generation – areas that are highly relevant to Goa’s economic landscape. The emphasis on rejuvenating legacy sectors, creating champion MSMEs, and fostering industry-led research and training reflects a forward-thinking approach. Initiatives such as Bharat Vistar and the promotion of women-led enterprises through SHE-Marts are particularly encouraging, as they support inclusive growth and digital empowerment. Our “Decoding the Union Budget 2026” seminar further enabled stakeholders to better understand these announcements and translate policy into practice, reinforcing GCCI’s role as a vital link between government vision and industry action.
A major milestone for the Chamber is the launch of the “MSME AADHAR STAMBH” Facilitation Cell. This initiative is designed as a comprehensive support system for MSMEs and aspiring entrepreneurs across Goa. With a strong focus on mentorship, advisory services, access to finance, and capacity building, the Facilitation Cell aims to address the critical needs of the micro sector, which constitutes the backbone of our economy. Through this platform, we seek to enhance awareness of government schemes, promote entrepreneurship, and enable Goan businesses to expand beyond local markets and become globally competitive. We are confident that this initiative will play a transformative role in fostering sustainable enterprises and creating new opportunities for youth and women.
In addition, our collaboration with MSME-DFO Goa to promote awareness on Intellectual Property Rights highlighted the growing importance of innovation and knowledge-based growth. Protecting intellectual assets is essential for competitiveness, and we encourage our members to actively integrate IPR strategies into their business models.
We have also constructively engaged with stakeholders on the Deposit Refund Scheme (DRS), voicing industry concerns regarding implementation challenges, infrastructure gaps, and consumer impact. While we fully support environmental sustainability, it is crucial that policies are practical, inclusive and effectively implemented. Several practical concerns have been highlighted by industry members. These include gaps in collection infrastructure, limited accessibility of collection points, and the operational challenges of managing low-value plastic waste. There is also concern regarding the additional financial burden on consumers and small businesses, particularly in the absence of a fully functional and efficient refund mechanism.
GCCI remains committed to advocating for policies that balance growth with sustainability and to supporting our members in navigating an evolving economic landscape.
Thank You,
Best Regards,
Pratima Dhond
