PRESIDENT SPEAKS

One of the important matters with the Chamber in January is the drafting of the pre-budget memorandum to be presented to the Union Finance Minister before the finalization of the Union Budget for the forthcoming financial year. It is generally a matter of routine, highlighting issues of one of the smallest states in the country. This time however was one indeed pressing matter which screamed for immediate redressal – the issue of the very survival of the mining industry and all its dependents.

The unveiling of the Union Budget is an annual ritual at GCCI. The Managing Committee members, GCCI Committee Chairpersons, and also Heads of major industry bodies witness this live relay together at the Chamber.

As we near the end of another year, we measure our good and bad. We fix our minds to get rid of our old bad habits and focus on trying to inculcate good habits and resolutions from the beginning of the new year, but we forget that we are only human, and old habits die harder. Change happens only if we focus our minds on the improvement, we want to see in us.

November has been an eventful month for the Chamber; The activity calendar began with the GCCI’s second Committee Conclave, where Chairpersons met with the Managing Committee members to discuss the progress of 15 committees and to conduct a formal review of tasks at hand.

The world is changing and we need to adapt to the growing need to survive in the changing world. With the need to change, comes an urge to lead a more sustainable lifestyle. The Women’s Wing Committee has already taken up the initiative to educate the masses on building goals for sustainable development in the State of Goa. Through the Environment, Social and Governance Weekathon initiative a weeklong awareness on sustainable living among the young and the old was done.

Come September! The rains continued albeit with less fury and brought in the festive season beginning with Ganesh Chaturthi festivity in the state. The spread of the pandemic reduced drastically and ignited hope for a fruitful Tourist season ahead for the beleaguered tourism Industry.
