3 rd September is always a very special day for the Goa Chamber of Commerce & Industry because it is Chamber’s birthday. This year we celebrated our 117 th Birthday. This year was even more special as on 3 rd September’ 25, GCCI had the privilege of organizing a seminar on the landmark GST 2.0 reforms announced by the GST Council. The event was graced by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa, Dr. Pramod Sawant, and Shri Sarpreet Singh Gill, IAS, Commissioner of SGST Goa, who both played instrumental roles in these reforms. In my welcome address, I described the GST 2.0 as a momentous development for the economy, aimed at simplifying India’s indirect tax system. The new two-slab GST structure—5% and 18%, with a special 40% slab for luxury and sin goods—will undoubtedly bring stability, boost compliance, and reduce litigation, all of which are crucial for fostering a conducive business environment.
Where is the world economy heading? What is the economic outlook for next quarter or next year? Is the Indian economic scenario grim? These and many such questions come up on everybody’s minds today. And does anyone have an answer? Probably only Nostradamus would if he was here.
Half of the financial year 2019/20 has already elapsed and there seems to be no respite to the southward journey of our economy graph. To what extent are the global trends and sentiments responsible for this! Is a million-dollar question.
As I complete the first quarter of my tenure as President, I have to admit of mixed thoughts that I have about the state of the economy in our country. Is the central government doing enough? Yes or No?

So welcome to a feisty new GCCI Bulletin encapsulating August work done by the Chamber presented to you in the auspicious month of Chaturthi -September.
It gives me immense pleasure to pen down my thoughts for the first time after taking over as the President of GCCI. I am extremely thankful to every one of you for reposing faith in me to lead this apex industry body in Goa, for the next two years. I assure you that with the support of my Managing Committee I shall try my best to live up to your expectations.
